Overview
Lifeskills was formed in 2024 from the merger of two respected NZQA-accredited organisations, Skills Update and QES. With decades of experience in community-based training across Auckland, Tauranga, and Christchurch, they are part of the LIFE Community, a network of faith-based social impact organisations dedicated to education, wellbeing, and family support throughout Aotearoa.
Supported by partners such as the Tertiary Education Commission, Ministry of Social Development, NZ Police, iwi, schools, and employers, they have helped over 45,000 students into jobs or further study over 28 years. Now under LIFE Community, they proudly build on Skills Update’s legacy of excellence to support the next generation of learners and leaders.

Approach
For the new Lifeskills brand, a new website was required to introduce the organisation and clearly present its two distinct service areas. The Training + Education subsite offers community-based training and education programmes, while the Support + Employment subsite focuses on creating opportunities through education, support, and employment services. The goal was to ensure users could easily understand and access both areas through a clear, intuitive online experience.
My role began with developing user journeys and planning the site architecture for all three parts of the site, including a new tabbed navigation system to allow seamless movement between them. I then created low-fidelity interactive prototypes, which were tested with existing students and staff to ensure the design was practical and user-friendly. Once the structure was approved, I worked closely with the design lead and creative director at Brave to translate the new Lifeskills branding into an accessible, welcoming website aesthetic. Finally, I built the entire site in Webflow, using its CMS features to deliver a site that is easy for the client to manage and update.
